55 Strong Allies In The Fight Against Travel Scams
If you fall prey to a scammer's clever ploy, you have two good reasons to contact the state attorney general's office. While chances are slim that you will recoup your losses, you can at least have the satisfaction of helping to put an end to the scammer's activities. In some cases, these anti-scam warriors do manage to get some money refunded. In addition, you will help others avoid the same costly pitfall.
If you are able to determine which state is home to the office or boiler room of the scammer, notify that state's attorney general as well as your own. Attorneys general are also a good source to check before you invest money and time in the vacation of your dreams. Since scammers move fast, the fact that no complaints are on file doesn't guarantee an offer's authenticity, but maybe you've run into a scam-under-investigation. In that case, your call to the state capital could provide the clue you need to keep from being taken.
Here's a list of names, addresses, phone and fax numbers for all state and U.S. protectorate attorneys general. Phone numbers are listed first, followed by fax numbers. For the 50 states, address mail to The State Attorney Generals Office, followed by the name and address listed.
